Terms, refunds, privacy and support
Written for parents, to be read. If something here is unclear, write to support@kiyosoft.com and we will answer in the same plain words.
Terms
The app
Kiyo Study is a learning app for children from Pre-KG to Class 12, made by Kiyosoft: lessons, practice and revision, games, handwriting, homework, tests, a daily plan, rewards and a parent area. Everything in the app today runs on the device, works without the internet and is free, with no time limit. There is no account to create.
For parents
Kiyo Study is made for children to use with a parent or guardian. A parent or guardian should set the app up, create the child's profile and agree to these terms for the child. You are responsible for how the app is used on your device, for the time your child spends on it, and for anything you or your child add to it, such as homework, written answers, drawings, photos and lessons you write in the content workspace.
The parent check (a sum written in words, or a PIN) keeps young children out of the parent area. It is a child lock, not account security: anyone who holds the unlocked device can reach what is on it. Use the device's own screen lock.
What the lessons are, and are not
The built-in lessons are sample coverage written along the Tamil Nadu State Board and CBSE syllabi, with Olympiad-style reasoning. Their answers are worked out and checked, but they do not cover every chapter, they have not been matched page by page to the official textbooks, and some Tamil text is still missing. They are a help to study, not a replacement for the school, its textbooks or a teacher, and not a promise of marks or results.
The tutor
The tutor in the app today is an offline guided tutor: it answers from each lesson's own notes and from exact arithmetic, and each answer says where it came from. A live AI tutor and photo doubt solving are planned; they will need Kiyosoft's cloud and are not available in the app yet. A photo of a question that your child saves is kept on the device and is not read or answered today.
Paid plans
Nothing is sold in Kiyo Study yet. Paid plans for features that need the cloud are planned. When one is offered, it will be sold inside the app through Google Play or the App Store, at the price the store shows before you pay, and these terms will be updated first. Every paid plan will keep what the free version has.
Your content and backups
What you and your child enter belongs to you. It is kept only on the device, and Kiyosoft cannot see it or restore it. Make a backup file in Settings before you change phones, reset the device or uninstall the app; without one, the data cannot be recovered.
What we do not promise
We work hard to keep the lessons right and the app working, but we cannot promise it is free of mistakes. If you find a wrong answer, tell us at support@kiyosoft.com. These terms do not take away any rights the law gives you as a consumer.
Refunds
Nothing is sold in Kiyo Study yet, so there is nothing to refund.
When paid plans are offered, they will be paid to Google Play or the App Store, and refunds will go through them, under their refund policies. We will never see your card, UPI or bank details.
- Google Play: Google Play's refund steps, and Google Play subscriptions to cancel.
- App Store: reportaproblem.apple.com, and App Store subscriptions to cancel.
On Android, a child should not be able to buy without you: use Google Play's purchase authentication or Family Link, or Ask to Buy on an iPhone. If something was bought that you did not mean to buy, write to support@kiyosoft.com too.
Privacy
In short
- No account, no cloud copy. Everything about your child stays on the device. Kiyosoft does not receive it.
- As little as we can. The app asks for a first name or nickname, never a surname, a phone number, an email address or the school's name.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking. We do not sell or share anything about your child.
What the app keeps, on the device
For each child profile: the first name or nickname, an avatar, the class, the board, the medium (Tamil or English), the subjects, how many minutes a day and on which days to study, and goals. Then what the child does: lessons, answers, practice, homework, tests and marks, the daily plan, minutes, streaks, stars and badges, drawings and handwriting, doubts the child types, says or photographs, and the tutor conversations. For the parent: the optional parent PIN, kept only as a salted check value (never the PIN itself), the daily time limit, settings, and any lessons edited in the content workspace.
All of it is stored in the app's own storage on the device. The app does not encrypt it separately: the operating system protects it, so use the device's screen lock.
What leaves the device
Nothing is sent to Kiyosoft. The app works without the internet and fetches nothing at run time except its own files. Things leave the device only when you or your child do one of these:
- Speaking a doubt or hearing a lesson read aloud uses the phone's own speech services (for example Google's on Android or Apple's on an iPhone). Depending on the phone, the speech service may process the voice on its servers, under its own privacy policy. Turn read-aloud off in Settings, and type instead of speaking, if you prefer.
- A backup file or a progress report (CSV) is saved or shared where you choose, such as Google Drive or a messaging app. It holds your child's data, so keep it somewhere safe and share it with care.
- A content package you export holds only lessons and questions, not your child's progress.
- Writing to us sends what you choose to send (see Support).
Permissions
The microphone, only when your child taps to speak a doubt; the camera or photos, only when a photo of a question is added; storage and sharing, only when you save or share a file. You can refuse or take back any of these in the device settings; the rest of the app keeps working.
Children's data and the law
Kiyo Study is used by children, so we treat everything in it as a child's personal data. In India, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 asks that a child's data be processed only with the verifiable consent of a parent or lawful guardian, and never for tracking, behavioural monitoring or targeted advertising. Today Kiyosoft does not collect or process your child's data at all: it stays on your device, under your control. We do not track children or show them ads.
Before any feature sends a child's data to Kiyosoft (a Kiyo account, a cloud copy of progress, the live AI tutor or photo doubt solving, all planned and all off today), we will ask a parent or guardian for verifiable consent first, explain what would be sent, where it would be kept and for how long, and make it possible to say no and keep using the offline app. Such features will be optional. This page will be updated before they arrive.
Your rights
You can see, change and delete everything in the app yourself (see deleting your data). If you write to us, you can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold from that message. For any privacy question or complaint, write to support@kiyosoft.com; we answer within 30 days. Kiyosoft is based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India.
If we change this policy, we will update this page first.
Deleting your data
Kiyo Study has no account to delete and no cloud copy: all of the data is on the device, and you delete it there.
- One child: in the parent area, open the child's profile and choose Delete profile. Their progress, homework, tests and drawings on the device are deleted.
- Everything: in Settings, choose Erase all data. Every profile, all progress, homework, drawings and content edits are deleted.
- Uninstalling the app also removes its data from the device, subject to the device's own backup settings.
These cannot be undone. Save a backup first if you may want the data again. Backup files, reports and photos you saved or shared elsewhere stay there until you delete them there.
If a Kiyo account with a cloud copy is ever offered and you use it, it will have its own Delete my account in the app, which deletes the account and the cloud copy, and this section will say how.
To delete a message you sent to support, write to support@kiyosoft.com from the same email address.
Support
Email support@kiyosoft.com with the device model, the app version (Settings › About), what you were doing and what you expected. A person reads every message, in English or Tamil, on working days.
Please do not send your child's data, such as screenshots with their name, their answers or a backup file, unless we ask for something specific to fix a problem.
The Help screen in the app also answers the common questions.
Kiyo Study is made by Kiyosoft, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. The other Kiyo apps are at kiyosoft.com/products.
